Safety

The Ardéchoise team is working to ensure your maximum safety by aiming to prevent accidents and through putting in place precautionary measures both before and during the race.

If you witness an accident:PROTECT, CALL and HELP. Tel: 04.75.06.19.22 or 112

However, your safety also depends on your actions, namely:

  • The care and attention you give to your physical preparation;
  • your food and your hydration.(there are no sports drinks available);
  • the preparation of your kit;
  • and, in particular, the regard that you have for your fellow-cyclists during the race.
  • To have a good race, it is important to know your limits: choose a distance to suit your fitness; do not try to take the course too fast.

With your safety and your enjoyment of the race in mind, the first 50 km to Le Cheylard and the last 42 km to Saint Félicien will be closed to through traffic. But please be careful: having the road to yourselves does not mean it is safe to take risks.

At 50km, at Le Cheylard, remember to KEEP TO THE RIGHT!  From this moment on, the normal French rules of the road apply again, together with all your associated personal responsibilities!

In addition, we ask you to be particularly careful during the descents, especially in the long and twisty descent from Nozières, between 19 and 28 km.

Take your time; you will have the opportunity to make up time later during the ascents.  If you are not in a hurry and wish to take your time and admire the landscape, please keep to the right, so that other competitors can overtake you!

For safety and organisational reasons, referees will enforce closing times at the checkpoints. We ask you to respect these instructions; they are not there to annoy you, but to contribute to and improve safety.

In the case of  serious problem, or exhaustion, there is a service of pick-up vehicles to help you get back to Saint Félicien. The vehicles are equipped with walkie-talkies to inform Headquarters and allow them to inform your companion(s). The timetable for the pick-up vehicles is available from the first aid stations and rescue cars.

On Saturday the following services will be provided during the race, in case of emergency:

  • 10 advanced first aid stations spread along the circuit, to assist those suffering from cramp or fatigue. Please do not hesitate to make use of them: you will be welcomed by people keen to help.
  • An advanced medical centre containing more than 30 beds will be located at the finish line during the whole event.

We hope that this information will allow you to enjoy and make the most of your race, without any inconvenience or injury.

We wish a safe race to all and a good Ardéchoise!
